Emergency Appointments

Tooth pain can be horribly debilitating, so Fernvale Dental keeps aside a number of emergency appointments for our patients every day. Our delightful staff will try their very best to accommodate you and treat the discomfort as soon as possible.

Knocked out tooth

If it is a baby (deciduous) tooth, then there is no need to try and put the tooth back in the socket - this may damage emerging adult teeth.

If it is a permanent tooth with the root still intact, then lightly wash the tooth in water or milk to remove any dirt and then replace the tooth back in the socket as soon as possible. It's important that you do not touch the root at all. As soon as the tooth is washed and replaced, take it to your dentist straight away to give the tooth the best chance of survival.

If you can’t replace the tooth back into its original socket, immediately place the cleaned tooth in a container of milk and get to a dentist. Do not place the tooth in water as it may cause damage to the root surface of the tooth.

If you are suffering from a toothache, the best thing to do is take painkillers and arrange to see your dentist as soon as is practical. Often a toothache that wakes you up during the night is a tooth that might require extraction or root canal treatment.

Sometimes antibiotics may be required to treat infection.
