Dental Check-Up and Clean

Dental check-ups and cleans, combined with brushing and flossing, are the best way to maintain your oral health. Regular trips to the dentist can prevent major dental issues, saving you money and time in the long run.

We recommend that you visit your dentist every six months for a dental check-up and clean. These appointments usually take between 30 to 40 minutes for regular patients.

If it’s time for your six-monthly check-up and clean, contact the friendly team at Fernvale Dental today on 07 5427 0880 or book online.

Dental Check-Up

A dental check-up involves a little more than simply looking at your teeth! Your dentist will discuss with you any concerns you may have, do a dietary and hygiene assessment and thoroughly examine your jaw, gums, tongue, throat, face and neck. Then they will examine your teeth for signs of cracks, infections, cavities or excessive plaque build-up.

At Plainland Dental, we believe that education is power, and we want you to have an understanding of your oral health and control of your treatment. If dental work is required, your dentist will go through the treatment in detail and explain why it’s required.

If there are areas to address, a dental plan will be created with your input; this allows us to tailor the treatment to your timeframe and budget. If further work is required, another appointment will usually be made.

New Patients

We take the time with new patients to thoroughly address any concerns they may have and take an in-depth look at their mouth and oral health. As a result, if there isn’t enough time to fit in a scale and clean, we’ll slate it for a future appointment.

Dental X-Rays

X-rays may be required as part of a comprehensive overview of your mouth. X-rays pick up on signs of infection or decay before they become visible to the naked eye. We want to pick up areas of decay before they become large enough to see with our eyes! With x-rays on file, we can also compare and mark any changes in your mouth.

Dental Clean

A scale and polish removes stain, plaque build-up and tartar, with the help of special ultrasonic tools and a gentle abrasive polishing paste. It’s far more effective than when you brush your teeth at home!

This treatment results in smooth and shiny teeth, and the slick surface makes it difficult for plaque to attach itself. If you have a heavier build-up, or periodontal disease (gum disease), several treatments may be necessary.

Fluoride Treatment

The final stage of a dental check-up and clean involves the application of fluoride, which strengthens the enamel. Please wait 20 minutes after the fluoride treatment before eating or drinking.
