Traditional Braces
Traditional braces are an orthodontic treatment that attaches to the teeth to correct the alignment of your teeth and bite.
Modern advances in orthodontics means braces are now more discreet than ever before! At our sister practice Plainland Dental, we are proud to offer ceramic braces, which unlike metal braces can be shaded to match your teeth.
We offer FREE orthodontic consultations at our sister practice Plainland Dental with Dr Yousef Issa, who has been providing high quality, affordable orthodontic treatment to teens and adults for over 10 years.

How do braces work?
Traditional braces consist of two parts, brackets which are fixed to the teeth and an arch wire runs along brackets. The arch wire is held in place with ligatures, or rubber bands, these are the brightly coloured parts you often see on younger patients’ braces. When tension is applied to the arch wire, it works to slowly move the teeth into the correct alignment.
Types of Braces
Metal
These are the most conventional braces, which you’re likely most familiar with. Both the bracket and arch wire are made of stainless steel, which is highly durable and cost effective.
Ceramic
Ceramic braces are a newer technology, also known as clear braces. The bracket is ceramic, in a colour that closely matches your teeth. The arch wire is still metal, however they come in shades that blend, and clear ligature bands are used. The overall effect is a much more discreet than the conventional metal bands.
Are braces for me?
Traditional braces can be used to fix all types of orthodontic cases, both minor and extensive and are suitable for all ages. If your orthodontic situation is more complex, it is likely the dentist will recommend braces, rather than clear aligners. Braces can be used to correct:
- jaw misalignment problems affecting your bite
- overcrowded teeth
- gaps between teeth protruding teeth (overbite)
- upper front teeth set behind lower front teeth (underbite)
Like all dental treatment, orthodontic treatments are customised and designed specifically for you. The first step is to seek dental advice to see if braces are right for you, and to find out which type of orthodontic treatment will give you the best result.
